I've never heard of that before. So basically you allow researchers to use your computer when you're not so they can do research?

Yeah. I'm helping SETI and a few others.

Side Note: One more post for you and you're a Major and one more for me and I'm a Brigadier General.

I'm not sure if you know, but do you have any knowledge of how they are able to do that, technically?

Except watching is not very interesting because you don't see what they're really doing. You get to see a graphic that stays mostly the same the whole time.

Well they let you do other things while it runs. It's running as I'm typing this and I can't even tell.

I just find it amazing that they do so much research that the computers they have aren't enough. How much data do you imagine they process a day?

I don't know, but it's really that they can't all afford the servers. SETI@Home uses the data to calculate more frequencies to broadcast into space, therefore allowing them to scan for more aliens. Sorry, I really don't know statistics.

That's fine, I just wondered if you knew. Maybe that could be something they put out on their website. I'll check.
